The Kirklands have owned property in Ephraim since 1915 and Diane was a summer resident from birth.  She lived in the Los Angeles area and New York City for 20 years prior to her move to Ephraim in 1983.  She was appointed Village Clerk three weeks later. 

 

She was a legal secretary, in the music industry for 14 years, wrote for national fan magazines, and owned a walkie-talkie rental company.  In Ephraim, she owned a gift shop and held a variety of other jobs before becoming full-time in Village government in 1989.   She is a longtime member of the Ephraim Moravian Church, has written the Ephraim column in the Door County Advocate for 24 years, and enjoys traveling and her feline family. 

 

Her work includes oversight of the day-to-day execution of the "mechanics" of Village operations, supervision of the office staff and Maintenance Supervisor, financial and other reporting, coordination with legal and accounting, researching grants and coordinating application and contracts.  

 

As Clerk, she keeps all files, is a Board of Review member, maintains Village finances and provides monthly and budgetary financial information.  She draws and countersigns all orders on the Village treasury, administers elections, maintains all passed ordinances,  publishes all notices, monitors compliance with the Open Meetings and Open Records laws, plus any other duties required by law or at the direction of the Village Board.

Nancy is native Door County and grew up in Baileys Harbor.   She graduated from Gibraltar with honors and majored in Botany and Psychology at UW Madison.  She has worked as a Manager at Wagon Trail Resort, as an Administrative Assistant for Thomas J. Koessl, Inc., at Palmer Johnson and, prior to joining the Village in 1997, at the County's Department of Community Programs.  She took on the additional responsibilities of Zoning Administrator in 2002 and Treasurer in 2003.  Now that Brent Bristol has joined the staff as Zoning Administrator, after training Brent in the position, Nancy has gone to half-time as Treasurer and Administrative Assistant.   She has a grown daughter and best friend Eryn, and has been married to husband Tom for eleven years.  A former Harley rider with over 100,000 miles under her belt, she is a rabid gardener and  ponder (water gardener).She enjoys her animal and koi family and traveling. 

 

As Treasurer, she deposits, records and reconciles all financial transactions, manages bank and State Pool accounts and loan transactions, and assists in annual budgeting.   As Administrative Assistant, Nancy researches, manages and troubleshoots all Village insurance policies and workers comp claims, submits Fire Department claims to the State, and handles other administrative duties.

Brent took over Zoning  duties from Nancy Goss in December of 2006.  He has handled all zoning and land disturbance permits, helped with Smart Growth planning and is preparing for his Building Inspector certification.  

 

Brent grew up in Webster, WI and is used to living in a rural area.  He and his family love Door County and have been here many times.  Brent's most recent work experience is at Sauk County, where he was an Environmental and Zoning Specialist, administering and enforcing zoning, Shoreland, floodplain, subdivision and private sewage system ordinances. 

 

Brent brings with him certification as a soil tester, an erosion control inspector and private wastewater system inspector, as well as a background in math, microeconomic analysis, and environmental conservation. 

 

Zoning Administrator responsibilities include coordination with property owners, contractors, realtors and building inspectors on all building projects in Ephraim, enforcement of the zoning ordinances, and reporting to Historic Preservation and Plan Committee, Board of Appeals and the Village Board.

Sue was born on Chicago's south side in 1955.  The family moved to Tennessee and returned to the Chicago land area 11 years later making many frequent visits to the Door County Peninsula. Susan attended junior College at Mayfair and Oakton in Des Plaines where she received her Associates Degree in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice followed by a Bachelor's Degree in Criminology/Penology, Minor in Abnormal Psychology from Northeastern University in Chicago. Beyond her formal education were many classes on business administration, time management, business writing, COLA laws, managing self-directed teams, and other customer service-related topics.

Sue worked at Bethesda Hospital in the Cancer Care Unit while going to school. Followed by the newborn ICU at Lutheran General and the emergency room of Mt Saini, in the evening Sue provided free family respite care for the severe and profound.  She also taught special education daily living skills at the Julia Malloy Special Education School in Morton Grove, where she resided with her husband and son Jeffery.  Susan provided 10 years of service at the College of American Pathologists (Laboratory Licensure and Accreditation) as a problem account specialist and Government Contract Coordinator for the military.  She was awarded several certificates for superior service for her client work. 

In 1997 Susan relocated to be with her fiancι in Fish Creek.  Susan loves the County and chose to remain here after his passing in 2003. Susan joined the Village staff part-time in 1999. Sue became full-time in 2004, when she was appointed Deputy Clerk, and remains the front line customer service representative for the Ephraim Administrative office.  She handles all Hall rentals, Accounts Payable/Billables, Hunting Permits, and manages the Village paper and computer files and the web site, and numerous other responsibilities.

An Illinois transplant, Mike earned a BS in Biology (Geography minor) from Illinois Benedictine and Illinois State University.  He joined the Village after sixteen years as Mittermann Construction, Inc., with over 30 years' total experience as a general and carpentry contractor.  Married to Lauren, they have three children--Michael (with wife Jaime and son Jacob, and in 2006, first grandchild Logan), Katie and Nick.  Mike is Assistant Fire Chief and a First Responder for Gibraltar and teaches firefighting classes for NWTC.  He is an avid dancer and passionate skier.

 

Mike's responsibilities include supervision of the maintenance staff, scheduling of all building maintenance assignments, in-house building and carpentry endeavors, oversight and liaison with the County and other contractors on Village construction and maintenance projects, budgetary and expenditure responsibility, State Aid reporting on pavement ratings and expenditures, coordination with the County on emergency services needs, and reporting to the Board and Physical Facilities/Utility Committee.

Mike grew up in Sturgeon Bay.  He has NWTC certification in small engines, in refrigeration, and as an electrician.  Mike became a plumber's helper in 1986, then for Nebel Electric and Sears as a maintenance/service technician.  For over 10 years, he worked at the Door County Co-Op as a service technician.  Mike joined us in April of 1997 and handled all the Village work on his own for the first two years.   Married to Kandie for over 26 years,  they have two grown daughters, Brandi and Amanda.  Mike enjoys hunting, carpentry, and working on his cars.  Periodically he cuts his blond tresses for Locks of Love.

 

Mike's varied duties comprise every facet of building maintenance work (including plumbing, electrical, painting and carpentry), maintenance of the Village's streetlights and our UV water systems, snowplowing, minor road repairs, road brushing and chipping, readying the Village for the season--and putting it to bed in the fall--and filling in on lawn, janitorial and recycling duties.  He is a member of both the Ephraim and the Jacksonport Fire Departments and is a First Responder.



 
    
  Jim Janda

Jim was born in Melrose Park, Illinois, and raised in Massachusetts - home of some of the most famous and photographed covered bridges, the 63-mile Mohawk Trail and the Nash Dinosaur Tracks dinosaur footprint quarry. It was in Massachusetts that Jim developed his skills in fishing and hunting and met and married his wife of sixteen years, Tracey. On 9/11 while a nation mourned, Jim heard the call and joined the military, serving his country in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

 

Skilled as a Master Certified Volkswagen mechanic for 15 years, Jim and Tracey along with children, Jamie 13 and Nicholas 3, would often visit his grandparents and came to call Door County home. Jim and family made the move to Door County and now live in Juddville, where Jim enjoys spending time with his family, fishing along the lakeshore, and hunting.

Dave went to Southern Door schools, where he was active in basketball and baseball.  He worked for Boettcher Nelson in Sturgeon Bay and Alberts Plastering for a short time after graduating from high school, then 24 years with Culligan Services of Sturgeon Bay where he was service technician. He joined the Village of Ephraim at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in May 2001 as a plant operator and was promoted to Plant Manager in December 2004.

He married his wife Anne in 1993 and they have four children:   Jordan, Tim, Emma and Olivia (and 2 cats and a dog).  His parents still live in the family home in Forestville,WI,  and he has an older brother, Gary.   Dave is active in Sister Bay and Ephraim Fire Departments and helps coach Little League baseball.  He enjoys fishing, boating, biking and spending time with his family.

His responsibilities at the Treatment Plant include management of plant operations, lab operations and the water testing program, supervision of our two plant operators, calculation of rates, budgeting and expense responsibilities, reporting on a monthly basis to the State, Wastewater Committee and Village Board, oversight of all construction and repairs to the plant and collection system, and safety procedures.

Brad Rasmusson

Brad graduated from Gibraltar High School in Fish Creek. He worked at a variety of jobs before being hired by the Village of Ephraim at the Wastewater Plant, where he is presently a Plant Operator. He is currently single (but he has a girlfriend).  He is active in the Gun Club shooting skeet, and the Baileys Harbor and Ephraim Fire Departments.   Brad enjoys hunting, fishing, boating and snowmobiling. 

 

Brad's duties at the Plant include maintenance, repairs, operational duties, lab and water testing, and holding tank pumping.

Russell was born 50 miles due north of Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.  Upon graduation from high school and several years of college, he was employed by Pontiac Motors, where he served a full apprenticeship and became a journeyman toolmaker/machine repairman.  After a move to Florida, Russ attained a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University and taught high school mathematics for over 10 years.  Answering the call of the north woods, he came to the beautiful Door County Peninsula and worked for a local grocer. From that gainful employment opportunity to the next, it was Russell's good fortune to become a member of the Ephraim Wastewater Treatment Plant crew.

 

 



 
    
 

Harbormaster

Keith Lindstrand

Keith Lindstrand grew up in the Kenosha area, earning an AAS in Industrial Engineering and Personnel Relations from U of W Kenosha and Gateway Tech, with further training in Plant Engineering at Marquette.  From 1972 to 1982, Keith served as Plant Engineer at Rexnord Corp. in Racine. He  was hired away as Director of Public Works in Paddock Lake for the next seven years.  He then worked as a Senior Construction Tech at Crispel-Snyder in construction management and inspection (which made him the logical choice to be the Village liaison for the recent north-end sewer project).  Keith and wife Lois moved to Door County to "retire" in 1999.  Keith has trained with the Coast Guard in sailing and seamanship  and they are both avid sailors. Keith enjoys cabinetmaking and restoring cars.

 

Keith's sailing knowledge lent itself well to becoming Ephraim Harbormaster in 2001.  He handles all dock contracts and transient rentals, manages the slip/mooring waiting lists, directs the two Dock Assistants, formulates the Coastal Management budgets and with his engineering background, has orchestrated several Village projects. 



 
    
 

Ephraim Fire Chief

Niles Weborg

Niles Weborg has traced his family back nine generations to Wiborg, Norway.  The earliest settlers in Door County go back to the late 1800s.  Niles has been an Ephraim resident since he left his birthplace of Gills Rock to marry high school sweetheart Joan Sohns, now together 47 years.  They had three children – Bill, Merikay and Scott.  Scott also serves on the Fire Department, as did Bill until he suffered a fatal heart attack while answering a call, the first Ephraim firefighter to die in the line of duty.

 

Niles was Ephraim's Building Inspector for over 10 years.  He worked in the shipyard industry in Sturgeon Bay for over 40 years before retiring in 2004.  A member of Ephraim Moravian for 50 years, he served as Sunday School Superintendent for over 25 years and is currently serving his fourth term as Elder.  He was Ephraim's Fyr Bal Chieftain in 1990, and continues to serve the Village well as our Fire Chief for the last 25 years.
